About Oncology & Haematology

Oncology means the treatment of tumours, and haematology is treatment of blood disorders. The majority of our work is the treatment of patients with cancer and those with haematological disorders.

Treatment may be by radiotherapy or chemotherapy or both, and may be given as an outpatient or an inpatient.

The Department for Oncology is made up of an Inpatient Ward, an Outpatient Area, a Radiotherapy Department and a Day Unit. The Avon Haematology Unit is housed within the BHOC. This unit has both inpatient and outpatient facilities. There are also many other services and facilities tohelp friends and relatives during the time spent visiting or staying at the BHOC.
