Jo’s Story

In 2005 when Jo was 11 years old, her mum, Sharon, was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer and after receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy at the Bristol Oncology Centre she was was given the ‘all clear’. Over a decade later, many other members of Jo’s family and friends had been treated for cancer at the Centre and she felt drawn to the Friends and wanted to support the cause in any way she could.

Having recently graduated with a degree in marketing Jo was already providing freelance marketing services to local organisations through her small business, Snowdrop Marketing, so she offered her services to the Friends to help build our profile and increase donations. As a keen runner, Jo was also fundraising for the Friends whenever she took part in a running event and it wasn’t long before she embarked on a much larger fundraising campaign.

The treatment my mum received at the Centre was amazing. The staff were fantastic and the advice and support we all received made a huge difference at a really difficult time.

Fundraising Campaign

Jo set out to raise £300 for the Friends by running seven races over the summer totalling forty miles and she referred to the campaign as her ‘Two Little Legs Challenge'. To add some context Jo is 4’10” - hence the title. After completing all of the races her fundraising total came to a fantastic £510.

Her chosen running events included a particularly rainy Great Bristol Half Marathon, a very muddy Tough Mudder and the Nailsea & Backwell Rotary Charity Run, another Bristol Oncology supporter.
